Staycation

Last week was yet another sick week for our household. Hana was sicker than I've ever seen her and Alaina was weak & feverish all week too. It was an exhausting week and we didn't leave the house from Wednesday until Sunday. We needed a getaway and chose to stay at a local hotel (only 15 miles away) on Sunday night mostly because of its indoor swimming pool.Hana hadn't been in a pool for a while and it was Alaina's first time. Alaina loved being in the water!!!
I love how Alaina is full of adoration for her big sister in this picture.
Hana went to the pool twice on Sunday and once on Monday morning. On Monday, we decided to let her 'swim' alone while we watched. Her Hello Kitty floaties were perfect and she was quite content to jump and float in the pool all by herself.
It's always nice to get away and we love hotel stays, no matter how close to home they are. The best part about these local getaways is that they are pretty relaxing yet our travel time is so short. We were home in 20 minutes!

Playdates

With Alaina finally recovered from her chicken pox and after 2 weeks stuck inside, we were ready to get out and play! Somehow we found ourselves with a Saturday jam-packed with three playdates. First stop was a playdate/brunch at Brady & Braxton's house. These boys are so playful and rowdy that they almost make me wish that I had a son! They have an insane amount of toys and the mess pictured below was created by Hana alone. After a stop at home for naptime, we headed over to Sialai & Action's home for Sialai's 3rd birthday party. Though they live only one street over, we were so lazy and drove. Sialai and Hana are only two weeks apart in age and they play so great together.
Final stop was to see Patrick. Patrick is my BFF's cousin and he is only hours older than Hana.

SF Giants

Hana and Kevin had a 'date night' the other day and went to the Giants game. Hana loves riding on trains and loves baseball games (because of ALL the people, not the game itself) so she was sooo excited. As they were walking toward the stadium, Lou Seal popped out of a car and Hana got the first picture with him! I wish Alaina and I could've joined in the fun but it would've been too late of a night for us. But as Hana says "When Alaina gets bigger, Mommy can come too!"

Mother's Day

Neither of these pictures were taken on Mother's Day but I love them! This pic below might just be my favorite of H & A together so far (and they are wearing matching shirts!). Last Mother's Day, Hana had a stomach virus and threw up on us all night long. This year, Alaina was sick and I spent the whole day at home taking care of my baby. Kevin got me roses and a great card but I was unsatisfied (admittedly, because I am spoiled!) He did forget to get me a card from the girls:(. Kevin got me a pretty thoughtful gift (a new coffee table that I've been wanting for a while) but it just wasn't appropriate since Alaina has started crawling and getting into everything. Return it!!!
Almost two weeks later, Hana told me she had a surprise and led me to Kevin's office. There I found the Le Creuset set that I have been wanting for a long time. I am sooo excited to own all these pieces!!!! The best part is that this cookware will last a lifetime and I hope my grandkids (yikes!) remember me cooking great meals in my blue cast iron pots!!!
This was a Mother's Day/early 5th Anniversary gift.

Crawling

I had the pleasure of seeing Alaina crawl for the first time on Friday before I left for work. I was so proud. She had been trying for about a week and was only going in circles but has finally made the progession to moving forward. She started becoming a lot more mobile right around the time that she came down with the chicken pox. She was wanting to try out all her new moves but didn't have much energy. It's been a rough couple weeks since she first got sick and it seems to be taking a long time for her body to fight her infections. Thankfully, she finally appears to be getting better.

Hana's 3rd Birthday

Hana's birthday was kind of uneventful since we had done most of our celebrating at her party on Saturday. We did treat her to McDonald's. She does not like the food but she loves the playground there and always makes new friends. We got her this dollhouse as a gift. It is just adorable and something I would've loved to own when I was a little girl. We've had so much fun playing with it together. And I must confess, I've already ordered more furniture for it.

Alaina was not her usual self all day and had a red cheek. I thought it might be beginning signs of teething but I also noticed a red blister on her before we left. By the time we came back, she had a few more blisters and a runny nose. I had just learned that day that a baby in her playgroup had come down with the chicken pox and started wondering if that's what Alaina had too. The next morning, Alaina had a fever, runny nose, more blisters all over her back and was whimpering. I took her in to the doctor and she pretty much confirmed the pox and was pretty surprised discover that Alaina had an ear infection too. Poor baby! I had never seen a baby that sick & miserable before.

Amazingly, in my three years as a mother, I've never had to take my child to the doctor for anything other than vaccinations & routine check ups!
Alaina's been a trooper but is still weak & recovering. Please vaccinate your children.
