2 days until 1

I was so excited to bake Hana's first birthday cake! I am not a good baker nor am I very artistically inclined so I thought I did a decent job. Since we will be out of town on Hana's actual birthday, we cheated and gave her the cake and some presents today. She loved eating the frosting and couldn't get enough. We rarely let her have sugar so this was definitely an indulgent occasion for her.
Which explains why she was soo upset when we had to take it away.

Baby Loves Disco

www.babylovesdisco.com We are always looking for fun things to do with Hana where we get to spend quality time with her but where she is also provided with an opportunity to interact with other children. We discovered Baby Loves Disco and this was our second visit.
It is so fun to see all the families and little kids moving around and interacting!
I bet this will be even more fun when Hana can really walk.
Hana did a little standing in the hula hoop area. She is an agressive little socializer. She met a boy named Charlie by crawling straight to him and yanking him to her. The video clip of this is great!

Easter Sunday=Fun Day!

Here is Hana all dressed up in her pretty Easter dress that Harmony bought her. She is holding a piece of cheese in her hands. She has let us know that this is her favorite food! We went to church with Harmony and Grandpa. They were so proud to
show off their granddaughter!

After lunch we made a surprise visit to see Hana's great grandmother. What a nice surprise that was! Hana doesn't see her very often but they seem to have a really special bond. This is Hana playing at Poinsett Park-the same park that her grandpa, momma, and uncles have played at many times in their own childhood.
At the park, our little tomboy went straight for the toy trucks and cars!

Poor Hana

Kevin had a bad cold last week and we think he gave it to Hana :(. Friday night, Hana kept waking up every hour or so, screaming and crying. She definitely did not get her usual 11 hours. Saturday afternoon she was screaming, crying and inconsolable. This was the first time she has had a cold/fever since she was born. Her fever was 102.5. It was a rough day but we did as much as we could to comfort her. This picture was taken Sunday morning after Hana got a better night of sleep. It is so precious how we knew she was still miserable yet she mustered the energy for a smile. She was still lethargic and helpless throughout the day. It was so strange yet sweet to see our active, talkative, independent girl just wanting to quietly sit or lay in our arms.
By the end of the day, she was feeling much better and had the energy to play and yell yet again. We put her to bed at her usual bedtime. 15 minutes later we checked on her and could only laugh when we saw her awake and playing with her mobile-making up for the weekend's lost playtime :)
This being our first experience with Hana being sick, we've learned a few of things:
1)It really hurts us when Hana is hurting and we wish we could feel the pain so that she doesn't have to
2)We don't like Hana being sick but it reminded us how helpless, vulnerable and needy she is and what a big responsibilty we have as her parents
3)It feels so good to provide her comfort
4)Daddy freaks out way more than Mommy does when it comes to Hana

Steinhart Aquarium

We decided to take Hana to the Steinhart Aquarium today. It is normally located in Golden Gate Park but is temporarily located in downtown San Francisco. It is the oldest municipal aquarium still in operation. It was a really cold and windy day so Hana had to put on her new jacket. She doesn't like having anything on her head so we're surprised that she tolerated the hood. She was in awe of some of the fishies we saw.
We let Hana climb into one of the portholes to get a closer view of the fish. Then we realized that everyone on the other side of the tank could see her.
This is what they saw. And Mommy had to indulge herself in the children's play area by putting Hana in the toucan costume-too cute!
